A new line of rainbow apparel will be available this fall in the US, a major step toward a global movement toward more inclusive apparel.
The line, Rainbow Pants, was announced on Monday by the American Apparel Manufacturers Association, which is representing companies like Levi’s and Abercrombie & Fitch.
The new line, which will be produced in partnership with American Applesourcing, will have three colors: black, purple and pink.
“It’s about creating a brand that represents a broader range of people than just people of color,” said Scott Taylor, the association’s president and CEO.
“We’re trying to bring a broader palette to the industry.”
The new collection will also feature rainbow designs, including the “rainbow” logo, Taylor said.
The rainbow trend is growing rapidly and has been embraced by celebrities and fashion brands in the United States.
A new website called “rainbows.com” will offer a selection of rainbow-themed clothing.
In addition to American Appelsourcing, the new rainbow line will also be produced by brands like Adidas, Reebok, and Nautica.
The first Rainbow Pants collection will be released in July.
The next one will be introduced in October.
The US has no laws that ban discrimination on the basis of gender identity, but the new campaign will be a first step toward greater acceptance.
